ISHTA means "Individual": I address practice to your individual needs, per day, per season, whether you're a group class, a private or semi-private session. ISHTA Yoga is also my Yoga lineage: Certified 2002 E-RYT 500 by 2nd Generation ISHTA Yogiraj Alan Finger. Check my schedule for weekly classes.
VINYASA means breath linked to movement; thus it is a moving flow that stimulates heart, lungs, and muscles for strength, and joints for flexibility, and addresses all directions of the spine, whether in standing, seated, floor, and balancing postures, all smoothly linked, for an all-over workout of body and mind that calms and energizes.
RESTORATIVE Yoga is deeply restful, fully supported poses using gentle propping of pillows and blankets, for restoring our body's own natural healing rhythms, through our "rest and digest" parasympathetic nervous system. It is recommended that an active yoga practice requires Restorative at least once a week to balance; more often if your life is busier or more active mentally or physically. I have been leading Restorative Teacher Trainings since 2010.
YIN Yoga cultivates calm and deep stretch, with poses held 3 to 5 minutes, to promote more health, longevity, and suppleness in all joints, bones, and the nervous systems supplying blood and circuitry through our fascia.
YOGA NIDRA MEDITATION is purely restful, reclined meditation in Savasana, the Relaxation Pose, in which your body sleeps, and the mind floats between wake states after setting an intention, letting the voice of the teacher guide you through five deepening layers of "sheaths" of awareness. Deeply calming, Yoga Nidra relieves stress, increases clarity, aids sleep, supports all other meditation practices, and can be deeply transformative on multiple levels.
"My resting heart rate was at 100 [at the start] and at the end of class it’s at 40 now - the lowest I’ve ever seen it.” - Danny, Equinox Club Yin Yoga student
"These have been most excellent-- your creativity makes them magical and I have been listening & practicing regularly. Usually I become very relaxed very quickly, like sinking into a fuzzy cocoon...
I usually keep sinking into relaxation through the breathing pattern, I am fully anesthetized… I say anesthetized not because I'm numb or don't feel anything (quite the opposite) but because it feels like "going under" in a certain way. It may be that the whole routine has conditioned me to start turning off even before I push play... spectacular surreal adventures into the multiverse... Almost as if my psyche is being set free from its body and allowed to roam freely. The intention set at the start seems to carry through into waking hours too. - Alec, Pure Yoga, Yoga Nidra student
“Every week when I think of how graced I am to have you in my life ... you have been a support system when I haven’t been supportive of myself ... I feel ... I think of a hammock... that sense of floating free in the air, but supported. - Alva, Health/Life Coach Client
Thai Yoga, "nuad boran" is a flowing dance between giver and receiver, done on a cushioned floor mat, with the receiver fully relaxed, and the giver moving through postures themselves while facilitating movement postures for the receiver, and applying manual pressure along energy or "sen" lines that correspond to all the body's systems. Practicing since 2007. Certified by Jenn Yarro of Triple Gem School of ThaiMassage, in 2009 and 2010 Levels 1 & 2.
